Description
Flattened unwrapped image of Theseus and the Minotaur from an Attic vase, or stamnos, found at the Vulci necropolis, Etruria. The jar was made in Athens about 490-480 BC and is attributed to the Kleophrades painter and is on display at the British Museum. Theseus is regarded as ancient Greece's greatest hero. Entering the Cretan labyrinth, constructed by Daedalus at the Minoan Palace of Knossos, and assisted by Ariadne, Theseus killed the Minotaur, a creature half man ?Ητ half bull, that had been imprisoned by King Minos after it had slept with Queen Pasiphae.
